Apple recently released an updated version of the Apple TV app as part of its latest software updates. The new tv OS 17.2 update features a sidebar that highlights non-Apple TV Plus content and allows users to easily access other Apple content, like MLS Season Pass. It also provides shortcuts to popular streaming apps such as Disney Plus, HBO Max, Prime Video, and Apple’s store, where you can rent or buy digital titles to stream.
Previously, non-Apple TV Plus content was overshadowed by Apple’s original programming. The updated interface now gives more prominence to third-party content, indicating Apple’s plan to position the Apple TV app as a comprehensive streaming hub, encompassing various streaming services.
Changes have also been made with regards to Apple’s iTunes apps. When users attempt to purchase a movie or TV show, they will be directed to Apple TV’s storefront. Similarly, on Apple TV devices, the iTunes TV Shows and iTunes Movies apps will now redirect users to the Apple TV app’s store.
The Apple TV app’s Store tab now acts as a central hub for on-demand video, allowing users to rent, purchase, and subscribe to third-party streaming services. The app’s library section stores all purchased movies and shows.
Additionally, the updated Apple TV app introduces a Home section that serves as a homepage showcasing various content collections, such as New Shows & Movies, Top Charts, Trending, and personalized recommendations in the For You section.
In summary, the refreshed Apple TV app aims to become a comprehensive streaming hub, providing easy access to non-Apple content, offering a store for renting or buying digital titles, and featuring personalized recommendations for a seamless viewing experience.
